Welcome to the Home Page of
North West Meccano Guild.
Pictures of models shown at some of our past meetings and exhibitions can be found on the " Members Gallery" pages.
The North West Meccano Guild (NWMG) is a group of enthusiasts who enjoy building models with the metal constructional system of Meccano.
Meccano began as long ago as 1901 under the name of "Mechanics made easy” and the name was changed to Meccano in 1907. Apart from three years during World War II, it has been in continuous production and sets are still available in the shops today.
The NWMG was formed in 1973 by six adult enthusiasts and now has a membership of about 40, mainly from Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Cumbria.
It is one of over 20 Meccano Clubs currently active in the UK. Further details of Meccano can be found on the “Meccano History” pages and of the NWMG can be found on the "Club History" page.
In addition to our two club meetings, we also exhibit models each year at Quarry bank Mill at Styal; Ellenroad Steam Museum, at Milnrow Near Rochdale and several local Steam Rallies. Dates and venues for all the current year can be found on the "Club Meetings" page.
Links to the web sites of most of our exhibition venues can be found on the "NWMG Exhibition Sites" page.
It is all very informal, here; no rules or restrictions. We get together, have a drink and a chat and a bite to eat. Share our ideas and experiences of model building in Meccano, sell or swap a few surplus parts, etc. Although Meccano is the main thing, similar systems like Trix, Märklin, Constructo and so on, also appear from time to time.
If you are interested we would love to hear from you. Whether you are a lifelong enthusiast or a newcomer to the hobby, you are more than welcome to join us. Just fill in the simple form on the "How to Join NWMG" page.
Go to our Bits & Pieces pages for great Meccano Tips, by some of the top Meccano modellers . Visit the Sales & Wants page, place an advert for your Meccano requirements etc.

Fresh developments to get Maghull’s Frank Hornby Museum off the ground.
Nov 25 2010 by Linda Foo Guest, Maghull and Aintree Star.
LIVERPOOL Museum has thrown its weight behind plans for the Frank Hornby Experience in Maghull. It follows a meeting between the trustees and the officials from the museum. For the past few years, the Frank Hornby Trust have been planning to set up a Hornby Museum in the Meadows Leisure Centre. A large room in the centre has been allocated to house the museum.
The next Step is to fit out the room and continue to develop a collection of Meccano, Hornby Trains and dinky Toys - the major products of factory in Binns Road. Liverpool Museum have pledge to help Maghull’s trustees to obtain Heritage Lottery funding and will loan items for the Meadows museum.
Members of the Frank Hornby Trust, Cllr Tony Robertson, said: “The response from Liverpool Museums was very positive and we are going to build up on the working relationship with them as we develop our own facility. They are going to loan us some exhibition pieces which will be in display cases”.
“A small section in the museum on the waterfront is dedicated to Frank Hornby, and the staff there will direct visitors to our museum in Maghull if they want to learn more about him”.
“We have still got a long way to go as we still need to obtain funding from the Heritage Lottery, and Liverpool museum are going to help us put the bid together. They could not have been more helpful”.

Les French the Chairman of the Frank Hornby Trust has informed me that the Meccano Chain making machine has been kindly donated by a Nottinghamshire Resident to the Frank Hornby Museum at Maghull. and would welcome other donations of Meccano memorabilia.
